Hedley Howarth Trophy - Men’s Premier Two-Day Championship
Championship Round 5 – Saturday 20th March and Saturday 27th March.
Major Championship
Cornwall v Howick Pakuranga - Cornwall Park 1
Going into this game Cornwall needed an outright to have any chance of catching leaders Takapuna and they did just about everything required to make that happen on day one. After winning the toss they then proceeded to take the Howick Pakuranga attack apart, with Brent Findlay leading the charge. His 143 came off just 151 balls and included a century just in boundaries (25 fours and two sixes). He had fine support from the rest of the batting order and that allowed Cornwall to declare at 347/8. They completed a very profitable days play in the remaining time as they reduced Howick Pakuranga to 95/5 in reply, and put themselves in prime position to push for the outright they need.
Cornwall 347/8 dec (Brent Findlay 143, Brad Chemaly 59, Sam Anderson 36, Ronnie Hira 33, Scott Bishop 30, Donovan Grobbelaar 3-45) lead Howick Pakuranga 95/5 (Joe Leach 57*) after one day.
