The objective of the Training and Development centre is to provide players and coaches with opportunities to have fun, while learning basic cricketing skills within a stimulating and structured environment. The key objective is to provide each playing member with the opportunity to develop:

• An awareness and interest in the game of cricket
• Cricket skills which enables participation in a variety of games and activities within the club structure;
• Knowledge and understanding of cricket and strategies;
• Social skills which promote acceptable standards of behaviour and positive relationships with others;
• Attitude and values that will encourage participation and enjoyment of sport in general both as a participant and spectator.

Often the volunteer coaches are forgotten and it is our intention to provide each Coach with:

• To emphasise fun and participation
• A clear, concise logical progression of activities;
• Simple to organise and implement session plans;
• Activity sessions which maximise participation, enjoyment and learning;
• To get parents actively involved in the game of cricket
• Constructive activities for girls and boys.
• Information on a variety of topics to aid the successful running of the HPCC's development programme.
HPCC Winter Training Programmes
The main objective of our winter training programmes are to assess players and assist in their continued development.
Players are selected on merit to prepare them for the Manukau trials which take place in September and October of each year. These winter squads finalised at the end April of each year with the squad training commencing at the beginning of August.

While this programme is important in the preparation of players for the trials it has a very small bearing on the final selection of the Manukau Representative teams for the summer. These players still have to perform once the season starts and players are often selected from outside the winter squads.

The Director of Coaching will arrange via the liaison officer for indoor training sessions to be offered to all promising year 6,7,8, U15 and U18 players.

HPCC Representatives Teams (Year Groups)
HPCC take part in a number of tournament days during the season. The Coaches from the development centre assist
in the selection of the best players based on merit to represent the Club in these Sunday tournaments (i.e. Annual Cornwell Day, HPCC Tournament, University Tournament, etc).

Selections are driven primarily on previous history together with current form leading up to a formalised trial. The trial format may consist on a combination of nets sessions and trial matches. This would be left to the sole discretion of the Selection Convenor.

The aim to select the strongest teams possible to represent the club in these tournaments, with the view of producing performances the club can be proud of.

Once the teams are selected the High Performance Coaching team assist where required in the preparation of these teams.
